500 Square Foot Apartment

Problem Statement

 I need to design a 500 square foot apartment for a young person just exiting college and entering the workforce with their first professional job. This must have a space for entertainment, a space to prepare and eat food, a space to sleep, a bathroom, and follow applicable building code.
 

Constraints

  1. Must have a space for entertainment
  2. Must have a space to prepare and eat food
  3. Must have bedroom with closet
  4. Must have a bathroom with the ability to clean yourself
  5. Must follow all applicable guidelines as shown below

Procedure:

All steps should be checked by Mr. Bishopp and all issues need to be corrected before moving on to the next step
  1. Go through the presentation above and review the basic building codes below
  2. Sketch 4 different bubble diagrams
  3. Make your 4 bubble diagrams into floor plans using 1/4″ Graph Paper, remembering that each square on the paper is 1 square foot. (no measurements, no doors, no windows, no furniture or appliances).
  4. Add closets, and all other areas.
  5. Add doors and windows.
  6. Add furniture, appliances, and plants.
  7. Add walls (using the guidelines that an interior wall is 6″ in thickness and exterior walls are 12″ think.
  8. Do final drawing on yellow paper.
  9. Open the Write-Up and follow the directions
