Penny Bridge

Penny Bridge Packet

Problem Statement
I need to design, construct, test, and perfect a bridge to cover a span of 14″ to hold the greatest number of pennies. The bridge may only be constructed out of one sheet of computer paper, and be free standing.

Constraints
  1. Must be greater then 14″ and less than 21″.
  2. Must be made from ONLY one sheet of computer paper.
  3. Must be free standing.
  4. May not touch the plexi-glass sides of the tester.
  5. May not touch the bottom of the tester.
  6. Pennies may not be stacked on the tester, only over the gap.
  7. The test ends when the bridge touches the bottom.
  8. Pennies that slide off do not count toward the total held, but the test may continue.
The Process:
  1. Sketch out an idea on one of the Engineering sheets
  2. Make the idea
  3. Test it
  4. Fill out the out the outcome area
  5. Repeat Steps 2-4 two more times with the improvements you came up with
  6. Repeat Steps 1-5 until you have completely tested 4 different ideas.
  7. Show the Instructor the 4 completed Engineering Sheets
  8. Make the Official Test Bridge
  9. Test the Official Test Bridge
  10. Complete the Write-up in the packet.
