Problem Statement
I need to design, construct, test, and perfect a bridge to cover a span of 14″ to hold the greatest number of pennies. The bridge may only be constructed out of one sheet of computer paper, and be free standing.
Constraints
- Must be greater then 14″ and less than 21″.
- Must be made from ONLY one sheet of computer paper.
- Must be free standing.
- May not touch the plexi-glass sides of the tester.
- May not touch the bottom of the tester.
- Pennies may not be stacked on the tester, only over the gap.
- The test ends when the bridge touches the bottom.
- Pennies that slide off do not count toward the total held, but the test may continue.
The Process:
- Sketch out an idea on one of the Engineering sheets
- Make the idea
- Test it
- Fill out the out the outcome area
- Repeat Steps 2-4 two more times with the improvements you came up with
- Repeat Steps 1-5 until you have completely tested 4 different ideas.
- Show the Instructor the 4 completed Engineering Sheets
- Make the Official Test Bridge
- Test the Official Test Bridge
- Complete the Write-up in the packet.
